on me and I remember bits of them on a daily or weekly basis.
Next:
- I’d like to gather my notes on all of them, share and re-read from time to time.
- also want to gather lists from interesting people, maybe make a top of books they agree on and add them to the read next list.
Approach to life
Meditations
- Marcus Aurelius
One of the best books of all time, and one of those that is good to pick up and revisit.
Man's Search for Meaning
- Viktor E. Frankl
Arguably one of the best books of all time
"Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
- Benjamin Franklin
Atlas Shrugged
- Ayn Rand
Controversial one, but no regrets/
"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."
Business
Losing My Virginity
- Richard Branson
One of the first entrepreneurial books I’ve ever read, had a big impact, changed how I looked at life from childhood to exercise to what it means to do what you love, work ethic, relationship to drugs, the list goes on.
The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business
- Josh Kaufman
Condensed business principles, very dense with useful information.
Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable
- Seth Godin
Made me think differently about marketing. Good marketing should be finding and communicating uniqueness in a remarkable way.
The 4-Hour Workweek
- Tim Ferris
Classic travel bro book, no regrets. Introduced me to a whole new world.
Creative
The Creative Act: A Way of Being
- Rick Rubin
More recent book that I picked up, I read random passages a few times per week at least.
One of my current favourites is thinking of “creating” as a journal entry. It’s not “bad” or “good” it’s what you have at this particular time.
Can be very woowoo at times but I found it extremely helpful for creative tasks, and so did countless artists. Seems like Rick Rubin did tap into some sort of “source” as he calls it, and he is maybe one of the few that has an undeniable track record to prove it.
Fun
The Great Mambo Chicken and the Transhuman Condition
- Ed Regis
A hilariously weird one I randomly found in a book store in Thailand, blurring the line between crazy, science, and fiction. Absolutely loved this one.
“Fun”
Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds
- David Goggins
Blew my mind, the book, the story, the person.
I think very misunderstood and still underrated.
One of the beacons of the “alternative path” in today’s world of comfort porn.
Discipline
Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win
- Jocko Willink and Leif Babin
How to operate in a high stress environment. Hate them or love them, military guys get shit done.
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
- James Clear
Maybe a softer, maybe smarter approach to change and discipline.
Bios
All the bios! Favorite genre, by far.
More soon.
